How to Prepare Roses for Spring
Pruning roses helps control their shape and keeps them healthy, and it’s time to prune in late winter or early spring, around the time that daffodils bloom. Learn how to prepare roses for spring in this P. Allen Smith video:
If you get in your rose bushes and “get tough” with pruning, they’ll produce more blooms than you can believe possible.
Get some sharp shears and leather gauntlet gloves. Remove any debris and cut off any ragged edges and anything that’s dead. Take out everything that’s under the size of a pencil. Look for dormant buds and cut just above those that are growing out to get a nice shaped plant.
Once you’ve finished pruning, feed your roses every six weeks during the growing season.
