Elegant Rental Bedroom Upgrade
The goal of this bedroom makeover was to give the space a more upscale boutique hotel feel while retaining as many of the furnishings and accessories as possible. See the details of this elegant rental bedroom upgrade in this EngineerYourSpace video:
The upholstery on the DIY headboard was removed and the structure covered with wood panels. Designed with legs, the headboard fits over the bedframe, and it is secured to the wall with removable 3M Command Strips. The white bed frame was covered with contact paper that matched the lighter wood tone of the headboard.
A new dark gray duvet cover adds drama while the white sheets and pillowcases provide contrast. Blackout curtains are layered over white sheers curtains, and the combination provides light or privacy as needed. The original lamps were outfitted with smart LED bulbs that can be controlled via smartphone and Alexa or Google Assistant.
One nightstand was built from wood scraps and left unfinished; a power strip hung on the back of the base hides unsightly cords. On the other side of the bed is an inexpensive IKEA nightstand with the same wood tone and height as the DIY nightstand. The bench at the foot of the bed is also DIY.
