1. Cut 1×2 lumber to the following sizes:

  • Four 18-inch pieces
  • One 25-inch piece (make 45-degree miter cuts)
  • Two 24-inch pieces
  • One 22-1/2-inch piece
  • Two 62-inch pieces

2. Glue the two 63-inch pieces together and clamp them together. Set aside and let dry.

3. Using wood glue, 2-inch wood screws, the four 18-inch pieces and the two 24-inch pieces, build the base. Pre-drill the holes to prevent the wood from splitting. Let dry. Sand it down with 220 sandpaper. Use wood filler to hide the screw holes.

4. Take a plain lampshade, add podge and drape colorful patterned cotton fabric around the entire drum in sections.

5. Once the fabric is fully around the lampshade, cut off the excess, leaving about 1/2 inch on both sides. Put glue on the inside of the fabric edges and roll them under the drum. Put podge on top to seal off the fabric covering. Set aside and let dry.

6. Attach the lamp post to the base using wood glue and screws.

7. Secure the 25-inch piece to the lamp post at one end and to the base at the other end using 1-1/2 inch brad nails.

8. Put a hook into one end of the 22-1/2 inch piece. At the other end, measure in and mark 3 inches, then attach to the top of the lamp post using wood glue and a wood screw.

9. Set up the floor lamp and hang the lampshade from the hook.
