Tip: Use a naturally rot-resistant wood to prevent moisture damage.

1. Cut four 1×8 boards to 19 inches for the front and back pieces.

2. Cut four 1×8 boards to 9 inches for the side pieces.

3. Cut a 1×8 board to 19 inches for the bottom shelf.

4. Pre-drill three holes at the ends on the face side of each long board.

5. Pre-drill holes on the short boards on the ingrain side.

6. Using wood glue and 1-1/4 inch screws, attach the boards to make the planter boxes.

7. Use a 1/4-inch plywood sheet to make the bottoms of the planter boxes. Attach with wood glue and brad nails.

8. Make a glue-up. Glue together two boards, clamp them together and let dry.

9. Cut 1×8 boards to 24 inches for the back legs. Attach them with wood glue and 1-1/4 inch screws.

10. Cut 1×8 boards to 36 inches with 45-degree angle cuts at each end for the front legs. Attach them with wood glue and 1-1/4 inch screws. The second box will be attached to the front legs only to get that tiered effect.

11. Align the glue-up with the legs and use 2-inch screws to attach it.

12. Stain the assembled planter.

Add a strong garden-safe liner to prevent leaks.
