Four Colorful Exterior DIY Door Designs

1. Vertical Columns Door: Alternate 1×4 and 1×2 planks. Use a spare 1x plank as a spacer and glue each piece in place. A speed square will help you keep everything at 90 degrees. Cut all planks flush with a circ saw after they’re attached to save time measuring. Paint the door a bright blue color.

2. Ornate Door: Use pre-made trim panels. Mark where the center will be on your door, glue them up and space them out evenly on the slab. To add extra fanciness, use rounded furniture nails to fill in the gaps on the edges. Paint the door a rich yellow color.

3. Chevron Door: Glue thin plastic paneling face down onto the door. Use a trimming bit on a router to cut the paneling flush with the door. Draw out the design and use a V groove router bit to make a shallow cut into the panel. Using a router allows you to “hand draw” any shape you want, making it a great option for any rounded or circular design. Paint the door a bright red or reddish orange color.

4. Triangular Door: If you set your miter saw to 30 degrees, you can create triangles with 60-degree inside angles. Using PVC planks, onn each plank, make the cut, turn over the plank, make the cut again, and work your way down the plank, creating pretty identical equilateral triangles. Draw a small grid since there are so many small pieces to align and it’s just a little more complicated. A dollop of glue on each triangle, and this design actually comes together pretty fast. Paint the door a rich green color.
