Seven Craft Ideas for Thanksgiving

1. Hand-Drawn Holiday Plates:

  • Using oil-based paint markers, draw designs on white plates.
  • Clean up the design with nail polish remover.
  • Place the plates in a cold oven, heat the oven to 400 F and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Let the oven cool completely with the plates inside.

2. Velvet Pumpkins:

  • Lay velvet flat and place faux pumpkin in center.
  • Pull off the stem and set aside.
  • Cut a 2-inch hole at the stem.
  • Cut a fabric circle that’s big enough to reach the stem. Cut darts in fabric. Pull one side up and glue at the stem hole, then repeat on the opposite side.
  • Gather velvet in pleats and glue, then repeat on the opposite side.
  • Glue excess velvet into hole and let dry.
  • Wrap stem with jute, starting at the top and wrapping until covered.
  • Secure stem to pumpkin. Use small stems from real pumpkins for smaller velvet pumpkins; adhere to velvet pumpkin.
  • Trace or draw leaf shapes onto paper and cut out.
  • Trace leaf shape onto green felt and cut out. Glue felt leaf to top of pumpkin.

3. Easy Fall Centerpiece Boxes:

  • Fall Foliage: Cut floral foam and place in planter box. Arrange pumpkins, gourds and corn. Fill in empty space with Spanish moss. Trim fall blooms to size and push into foam. Finish with fall leaves and grasses.
  • Harvest Herbs: Line planter box with plastic sheeting. Use floral foam to add height. Arrange rocks on plastic sheeting. Arrange herbs as desired. Arrange pumpkins and gourds. Fill in gaps with Spanish moss.
  • Golden Gourds: Spray-paint pumpkins and leaves as desired. Cut floral foam and line planter box, leaving ends open. Arrange pumpkins. Fill in spaces with Spanish moss. Arrange leaves. Hot glue acorns throughout arrangement.

4. Gingham Pumpkins:

  • Draw horizontal sections.
  • Paint vertical sections, skipping every other segment.
  • Paint horizontal sections.
  • Mix black and gray paint and paint the intersections. Let dry.

5. Natural Nut Wreath: You will need glue sticks, foam wreath, hot-glue gun, scissors, burlap ribbon, mixed nuts, and sealer.

  • Wrap wreath in burlap and hot-glue in place.
  • Hot-glue mixed nuts to wreath.
  • Spray wreath with sealer.

6. Creative Thanksgiving Centerpiece: You will need a large oval platter, chalkboard paint, colored chalk, and a paintbrush.

  • Apply the first coat of chalkboard paint to the platter.
  • Let dry and add a second coat.
  • Use chalk to write on the platter.

7. Fall Mason Jar Centerpiece: You will need Mod Podge Matte, a foam brush, mason jar, silk leaves and raffia.

  • Cover jar with Mod Podge and let dry 1-2 minutes until tacky.
  • Apply fabric leaves, smoothing as you go.
  • Coat with Mod Podge and let dry.
  • Tie raffia around the jar.
