Multipurpose Carport

To maximize space on his narrow lot, designer Philippe Beauparlant built a multipurpose carport that serves as a parking garage and outdoor dining area that’s perfect for year-round entertaining. See the features in this House & Home video:

This outdoor structure was conceived as a pavilion that would have multiple uses. It is divided into a one-car parking space and a storage compartment off to the side for bikes and patio furniture. Pesky raccoons made it impossible to grow grass from sod, so the ground outside the carport is covered with artificial grass. From the home, a narrow deck leads down to a small lounge area which transitions to the grass patch and then to the carport.

The carport has a concrete pad, a wooden fence on the side and a wooden underside. Ceiling fans and heaters help keep the space comfortable, and string lights and audio speakers add ambience. The sliding doors covering the storage area were transformed into a fun design element by painting them in a Jackson Pollock inspired abstract style in multiple colors.
