Refinish Outdoor Furniture in Four Easy Steps
Over time, your outdoor wood furniture will start looking dull and weathered. Instead of replacing it, give it a fresh new look with paint or stain. Learn how to refinish outdoor wood furniture in four easy steps in this Pottery Barn video:
For this DIY project, you will need wood stain, 120 grit sandpaper, damp rags and a 2-3 inch white bristle brush. You should also use personal protective wear such as goggles, rubber gloves and a utility apron to protect your clothes from dirt and paint spatter.
1. Lightly sand the surface with 120 grit sandpaper. Once you’ve done the entire surface, simply take a damp rag and wipe the surface clean.
2. Next, make sure that your stain is properly stirred. Using a 2-3 inch brush, apply the stain using long overlapping brush strokes to prevent streaking. Let dry. NOTE: Most furniture will need at least two coats of stain, and you will need at least two hours in between each coat to let it properly dry.
3. Apply the second coat of stain and let dry.
4. Clean your brush with dish soap before you put it away.
