Modern Rustic Master Suite Makeover

Everyone wants an amazingly comfortable master suite, but we usually put our design focus on the living room and kitchen. Since we spend a third of our lives in our bedrooms, why not make that space look incredible? Designer Amy Matthews presents the design features of her modern rustic master suite makeover in this video by The Design Network:

The original master suite had a confusing design – there was no wall for a bed, no closet, a strange nonfunctional corner fireplace, and a tiny bathroom with a large Japanese soaking tub in the middle of the floor. It did, however, have huge windows and high ceilings with a beautiful beam running through the room.

Instead of putting up a full wall and a walk-in closet, Amy built a partition wall which gave the closet some light and kept the ceiling open, and it ended up being the headboard for the bed.

The wood paneling was painted white, setting the stage for a very peaceful serene room, and the floor was partially sanded to reveal beautiful white and red oak flooring. Amy chose to replace the old windows rather than fixing them as it was just as cost-effective, and new windows are more energy efficient. A mix of textiles, pillows and woods, along with different nightstands flanking the bed, create visual interest.

A sliding barn door with acrylic panels brings much-needed light into the bathroom. Amy opted for a larger concrete shower, eliminating the tub. Whitewashed tile makes the shower and flooring flow as one.
