How to Pickle Wood

Pickling is a technique for brightening dark wood furniture and accessories. Learn how to pickle wood in this video by Better Homes and Gardens:

1. Sand surface with medium-grit paper, being sure to work with the grain. Wipe away sawdust with a tack cloth.

2. Tape off any hardware or areas that you don’t want painted.

3. Mix one part white latex primer-sealer with three parts water.

4. Brush the mixture onto the wood.

5. Rub the solution into the wood against the grain with a dry rag.

6. Use a fresh rag to remove any excess, wiping with the grain.

7. Repeat steps 4-6, working in sections to cover all of the wood.

8. Let dry overnight.

9. Brush on clear polyurethane to coat surface.

10. Let dry overnight, then remove any protective tape.
