How to Stain a Deck

Adding a fresh coat of stain will make your deck look new again. Learn how to stain a deck in this video by Better Homes and Gardens:

1. Remove all furniture, plants and accessories from the deck.

2. Lightly sand and sweep.

3. Mix deck-cleaning solution in a sprayer and spray deck thoroughly. Scrub with a stiff brush.

4. Wash deck with a power washer. Let dry completely.

5. Apply stain with a roller in three-foot sections at a time.

6. Brush stain on railings in the direction of the grain.

7. Use a smaller paintbrush to stain smaller sections.

8. Let deck dry completely.

9. Move all furniture, plants and accessories back and enjoy your just-like-new deck!
