Warm and Cozy Holiday Patio

The covered outdoor patio at the Shangri-La Hotel in Toronto is used all summer long, but it has never been used during the winter. They wanted to have it decorated during the holidays but also wanted it to work well and last through the whole winter season. See how designers Joel Bray and Reiko Caron create a warm and cozy holiday patio in this House & Home video:

The outdoor design started with the existing furniture which was modern, clean-lined and a good candidate for layering. Seating areas were created around the three fire pits.

Adding a long dining table and two wicker benches provided a place for communal dining as well as the perfect surface for a holiday tablescape. Glass terrarium houses were filled with pine cones, fake snow and fairy lights, and low-maintenance floral arrangements were made with a variety of eucalyptus and berries. Large pine cones complete the display.

Summer ferns were replaced with fir, spruce and cedar trees in different sizes, creating the effect of an enchanted forest. The color palette, a combination of shades of green and neutrals, was influenced by the hotel interior. Pillows and throws in a variety of textiles including velvet and faux fur make the space cozy and warm.

Four pre-lit Christmas trees provide the finishing touch to this outdoor transformation.
