An updated mailbox adds both curb appeal and utility. Learn how to install a new mailbox in this Lowe’s video:

Important: Call 811 before you dig to check for underground utilities.

1. Mark the spot for your mailbox.

2. Dig your hole to place the box bottom. You want the box to be 6-8 inches from the curb and 45 inches from the street level.

3. Add six inches of gravel into the post hole.

4. Mix concrete according to the instructions on the bag.

5. Set the post into place and fill with concrete.

6. Check that the post is plumb.

7. Using a trowel, slope the concrete down to encourage water runoff.

8. Decorate your post base with stones if you like.

9. Attach the mailbox to the post with brackets.

10. Check to ensure that the box is level.

11. Label with numbers at least one inch tall.
