How to Install Faux Tin Ceiling Tiles

Looking to decorate your ceiling with tin? It can be a very expensive material, and cutting and installation can be rough on the hands. Faux tin ceiling tiles made from plastic are a great alternative; they are flexible, beautiful, very easy to cut and can be glued or nailed to the ceiling. For this DIY project, you will need a pencil, tape measure, scissors, chalk line, contact cement and a roller and a ladder.

1. Determine the square footage of the area you’ll be working in. Mark the perimeter with the chalk line.

2. Starting at the center, remove the top plate of the ceiling light fixture (you do not need to remove the entire fixture) and locate the center of the outlet. Trace the outline of the plate onto the tiles with a pencil, then cut along the pencil marks.

3. Apply the contact cement to the ceiling and to the back of the tiles. You will have a 15-20 minute window to work in.

4. Apply the tiles to the ceiling, starting at the center and moving outward to the chalk line perimeter. Let dry.
