Deck and Backyard Makeover

This deck was drab with oranges and reds – and mold and mildew, and the homeowners wanted to make it a nice place for family and friends to gather. Also, the backyard, while spacious, was under-utilized. With five easy DIY projects in one weekend, DIY expert Monica Mangin creates an amazing outdoor space for entertaining and dining. See the details of this deck and backyard makeover in this Lowe’s video:

The first step was to power wash the deck and brick to get rid of the dirt, mold and mildew.

1. To make the deck feel like an extension of the living space, the brick was painted a dark gray.

2. The grilling station has a new gas grill with a zonal cooking system and a wooden DIY grill cart that holds everything from cooking utensils to seasonings and doubles as a serving station for entertaining.

3. A light gray solid surface stain on the deck and railings gives the high-end look of composite decking.

4. A circular fire pit constructed from pavers was built in the backyard. The surrounding seating area was paved with round riverstone.

5. Huge DIY herb garden planters made from cedar give an outdoor kitchen vibe.

Outdoor furnishings and accessories provide the finishing touches.
