Family-Friendly Garage Makeover

These homeowners have a common problem – a messy garage. While organization is key, they would also like to use the space for woodworking and crafting. With five easy DIY projects in one weekend, DIY expert Monica Mangin transforms this space into a decluttered multi-purpose hobby room. See the details of this family-friendly garage makeover in this Lowe’s video:

The first step was to empty the garage and determine what to keep, trash, and donate.

1. To lighten up the space, the garage was spray-painted with a white paint that is dirt and stain resistant.

2. A simple shelving unit made from 2×4’s and plywood holds large plastic storage bins.

3. The new vinyl sheet flooring has a wood look and is kid-friendly and easy to clean. Installation was simple: measure, cut to size with a utility knife and apply with flooring adhesive.

4. A DIY rolling cart with pegboard sides stores woodworking tools and supplies.

5. Outfitted with hooks, stock cabinetry and storage crates, a custom-built-in serves as a faux mudroom.

Finishing touches include a worktable and a custom bin for storing scrap wood.
