Five Tips for Designing Your Own Dream Laundry Room
This renovated laundry room feels bright, light and airy, and a fun place to do laundry. Designer Cynthia Soda presents five tips for designing your own dream laundry room in this House & Home video:
1. Express Yourself: Pick colors and things that you actually like. You may be spending considerable time in the laundry room and you want to like where you are.
2. Maximize Closed Storage: Laundry room items are not always pretty, so you want to ensure you have plenty of closed storage and that it accommodates items such as an ironing board, baskets and detergents.
3. Use Patterned Tiles: Go a little wild with the tile. A small laundry room provides the perfect opportunity to install a crazy tile that you wouldn’t use in the kitchen.
4. Keep It Light and Bright: Nobody wants to work in a dungeon, especially when you’re doing laundry. Install windows if possible and/or ensure you have sufficient artificial lighting.
5. Make It Functional: Form follows function. Make sure your laundry room works for you and that you’re happy with it. The counters should be at a good height, and the cabinets should be easy to reach. If you’re going to hang a rod really high, you should have a stick to help you bring the hangers down.
