Basics of White Bedding

A bed layered in white always feels clean and crisp. It’s easy to build a collection of white bedding that ties together beautifully regardless of the season. Learn about the basics of white bedding in this video by Pottery Barn:

Add a new element like a duvet cover, sham or quilt and your whole bedroom is refreshed in an instant.

All white doesn’t mean boring – far from it! A white bed can take on any number of identities. It could be clean and classic, organized and geometric, or romantic with ruffles and beautiful heirloom linens.

No matter your style, you can create your own custom look. Choose from a wide range of fabrics, from classic percale, sateen for a more sophisticated tailored look, classic hotel-inspired bedding with contrasting embroidery, linen for a relaxed breezy vibe, matelasse for an eye-catching texture, ruched voile in a quilt or duvet cover, and a rustic luxe linen silk comforter and shams.

Start your bedding with high-quality sheeting – percale, sateen, or linen. Then layer on a duvet or comforter. For a finished look, top it with a quilt, either made into the bed for additional comfort or folded at the foot for an extra layer of warmth when needed. For extra loft, you can add a second duvet at the end of the bed.

Because everything goes together, a white bed can be as layered or as simple as you like. For a streamlined look, choose shams that coordinate seamlessly with your duvet or quilt. For an eclectic bed that’s rich in texture, choose contrasting fabrics.

Two final tips: 1) Use a little spray of water to ease out wrinkles, and 2) Add a few sprigs of lavender to create a beautiful scent that freshens. Since we spend almost a third of our lives in bed, it should always provide comfort and renewal.
