1. Turn off the power to your existing outdoor light. Don’t mess around with electricity; make sure you turn off the power.
2. Carefully remove the old fixture.
3. Begin installing your motion sensor light by attaching the mounting strip. This allows you to attach the wires before mounting the fixture.
4. Match the wires on the motion sensor light to the existing wiring, and attach those matching wires together using wire connectors and electrical tape. If the wiring colors don’t match (a common problem in older homes), don’t worry; you can use a voltage meter to identify the positive, negative and ground wires coming from your house.
5. Use a screwdriver to attach the light to the mounting strip, checking that all wires are completely inside.
6. To keep the interior wiring dry, waterproof the fixture by applying a bead of silicone caulk around the outside of the wall plate.
7. Turn the power back on and test your light, adjusting the angle of the lamps for the best coverage. Some fixtures include sensitivity settings or timers, which you should set up now.
