Three Tips for Smart Kitchen Design
Having a functional layout is the key to maximizing a small kitchen. Following the three tips for smart kitchen design presented in this Better Homes and Gardens video will help your small space pack a punch:
1. Maintain the triangle: The work triangle is central to kitchen efficiency. Main work areas make up the triangle – the sink, refrigerator and cooktop. Keep the path between these areas open, and the kitchen will function best, even if it’s small.
2. Add a peninsula: The best peninsulas are at least 48 inches deep plus an overhang. This maximizes storage underneath while allowing space for seating. Avoid overhead cabinets for an open look.
3. Plan for appliances: Keep the distance between appliances and a landing zone to less than two steps. In the kitchen featured in this video, the fridge door opens away from adjacent counter space, and the oven is situated directly across from the island.
