Tips for Creating the Perfect Bathroom
We probably think of the perfect bathroom as a huge space with lots of natural light, an enormous tub, pendants, hardware – a gorgeous luxurious shrine to water. In reality, though, most of us have pretty small footprints for our bathrooms. Learn how to give the illusion of grandeur with the tips presented in this video by The Design Network:
When your space is tight, work the vertical. You want to bring the eye up the wall so it’s not focused on that tiny little footprint. Bringing a tile pattern from floor to ceiling will make the room look ten times taller. If you can’t afford tile, paint vertical stripes to achieve the same effect.
Bring shower curtains all the way up to the top of the ceiling. While the shower may only be six feet tall, you want the shower rod at eight foot, even if it’s right outside the bathtub and shower built-in. Again, this brings the eye up so we’re not focusing on that little floor plan.
Another vertical trick is to bring your towel rack a little bit higher, maybe at six foot instead of five. Use Turkish towels for ultra softness and absorbency.
Mirrors are the great illusionists of the whole house. Install a large mirror in your bathroom. Depending on where you put it, you can make your bathroom look twice as big. It also brings a lot more light into the room by bouncing the light on all the walls. Place your mirror so it has an attractive reflection.
If you have a clawfoot tub rather than a built-in,
the space underneath the tub gives way for the eye to move, making the room look larger. for an extra tight space, try a shorter, extra deep soaking tub. Another way to make the room look bigger is by installing an open vanity.
Bathrooms should always feel luxurious when it comes to styling. There are simple affordable ways of doing this.
- Have a plant or flower in the space. Ferns love dark bathrooms, and the moisture in the air makes them live forever. Succulents are also a great choice. Use orchids in low light for a punch of color.
- When it comes to soaps, bath oils, lotions, shampoos and conditioners, having a beautiful surface on which to stage them and having them out all the time is also key. A small brass table next to the tub makes it feel like everything is really easy all of a sudden.
- It’s also about entertaining the nose with a lot of beautiful scents, oils, dried herbs and flowers, soaps – all ot these things take you to a different place as soon as you walk in the door, and that is key to having a successful bathroom. Try online DIY recipes for personalized bath scents.
You don’t have to have a lot of space to have a really luxurious bathroom. It’s really about those small details that make the bathroom a big deal. This is the place that we take care of ourselves, get ready, primp ourselves, and wash ourselves. It’s a very vulnerable place, so make it beautiful and make it feel like it’s taking care of you.
