You can make sections longer or shorter; just add 16 inches from the length of the side assemblies to modify them without cutting the concrete pavers used for the tops. For a complete tools and materials list and detailed project instructions, click here:
Start with the side assemblies:
- Attach the slats to the posts with exterior wood glue and screws.
- Build the frames for the shelves. Cut the ends and rails to length and screw together.
- Insert the electrical conduit pieces into the holes at the side and rear post. They’re not just for appearance; use them as a place to hang cups and hot pads.
- Align the shelf frames on all three posts and fasten them into position.
- Cut the inside front post to length and screw into place.
- Finish the assembly with trim and rails placed between the posts and attach them by drilling pilot holes and driving screws. Cover the storage shelves with eight equally spaced slats. Place the arm rail into position and secure it with screws.
- Construct the second mirror image assembly.
Build a grill surround using landscape stones and adhesive. Use a level to align the stones and check for square as you go. Alternate the row patterns and apply adhesive to each successive row. Finish by positioning the end assemblies and aligning the conduit into the rear posts.
For the surface, use patio pavers secured with adhesive. Fasten the back slats in place, and you’re finished.
Roll the grill into the surround, fire it up and enjoy your outdoor kitchen!
