How to Install Kitchen Cabinet Organizers

Make your kitchen work better by getting the most out of your cabinets. Learn how to install cabinet organizers in this Lowe’s video:

A little planning and easy-to-install cabinet organizers will help make your kitchen more functional and orderly.

First, identify storage problems. Inventory your stuff so you’ll know exactly what to get, then make a storage plan. Cookware might work best near the stove and cleanup near the sink.

Next, measure your cabinet’s interior depth, width and height. Also check clearance of drawers, doors and hinges. Use this information to check the dimensions on the organizer packages.

There are options for almost every need. Here’s how to install a basket organizer:

  1. Release the slides from the baskets by pulling up on the trigger. Measure the height needed for the upper basket by placing your larget pot inside the cabinet. Then attach the bottom slides to the bottom holes in the U-shaped support bracket. Attach the upper slides at the height you measured, and the frame is done.
  2. Set the frame inside against the cabinet frame opposite the hinges. The front of the slide should be about 1/4 inch from the edge of the face frame. Secure it with screws. Attach the bottom with screws too.
  3. Attach the rear mounting bracket to the back of the cabinet and re-attach the baskets on the slides.

A pull-out trash can is helpful too. The installation is a little different but just as easy. First, place the frame inside the cabinet and check that it slides freely and the door closes, then secure it with screws. Install the basket, uprights and handle. Pop in the trash can and check that it slides smoothly.

For easier access, optional hardware is available to mount the door to the frame. Start by removing your cabinet door and hinges. Secure the L-brackets to the slides, and loosely attach the door brackets to the L-brackets. Make sure the door brackets line up with the thick part of the door so the screws won’t pierce the fronts. Use spacers if needed. Close the frame and apply double-sided tape to the brackets. Line up the door with the upper drawer and adjacent doors, and press firmly onto the tape. Drive screws through the bracket. The brackets are designed to allow for minor adjustments if needed. And – it’s done!
