How to Elevate a Room by Updating Three Accessories

A common question homeowners have is “What can I do to make this room look better?”. By updating three commonly overlooked accessories, you can elevate the overall look and feel of a room. Learn more in this Smart Interiors video:

There are three accessories homeowners become blind to over time and become “invisible”. Improving or enhancing these accessories can give your room a new look:

Picture frames in a home are often mismatched or dated. Consider getting new frames and creating new arrangements. When grouping, 1) pick frames with similar color tones, 2) vary the size, height and thickness, and 3) group in odd numbers.

Over time, lamp shades become yellowed, dusty, dented, faded, and dated. Updating your shades can turn a room from boring to beautiful. As a general rule, use a simple shade with an ornate lamp base and an ornate shade with a simple lamp base.

Nothing brings down a room more than unhealthy plants and dated faux plants. If you have ivy plants on top of an entertainment center, armoire, or a china cabinet, get rid of them; these went out of style years ago. Replace any faux plants older than five years. Choose plants as close to nature as possible; they should look so real that you’d need to touch them to see if they’re fake.
