Three Color Palettes for Bathrooms

Your master bath is a functional space for everyday use, and the color scheme you choose can transform athe space into a spa-like retreat or an energizing space to start your day. See how much color can create a mood for this space with the three different color palettes presented in this video by Ace hardware:

Shift into Neutral: Lighter hues and neutrals are a good choice for bathrooms that get a lot of use. Neutrals are calming and relaxing, and lighter neutrals will help give you a better unaltered skin tone while putting yourself together for the day. Painted cabinetry, moldings and trim are a great way to bring visual interest into a neutral bathroom. Choose a shade that’s either a few shades lighter or darker than your wall color to highlight these architectural features. Bring in beauty with a few character pieces. Choose interesting shapes, textures and materials for your accessories like plumbing fixtures, towel racks, cabinet hardware and lighting. Another easy way to create interest in a neutal bathroom is to add framing around plain mirrors. Paint the frames in a color that complements the wall color.

Take it Up a Notch: For a look that’s in-between neutral and bold, you can bring in toned-down hues of your favorite colors. If you want to bring some color in on the walls, a soft blue or green makes a great bathroom color that all can appreciate. Adding a brighter color to one item or spot can create a focal point. For example, a soft orange color on the vanity helps draw your eyes without overpowering the room. A neutral color like warm white on the trim, mirror frames and chair can help unify the color scheme while adding transition to the typical bright white of the countertops and tub.

Go for the Bold: Bold paint color in your bathroom will infuse the room with energy. Bathrooms are a great place to try something more adventurous without worrying about how the colors you choose will tie in with other rooms. The powder bath is the one place where the sky is the limit with bright color, and not just one wall – commit to the entire room. If the color feels too bright , just simply fill the wall space with artwork, mirrors and towels. if you are painting your waslls a very deep color, it’s a good idea to leave your ceiling a lighter color as the room may start to feel a bit closed in otherwise. Deep rich colors are great for adding contrast to moldings, cabinetry and accessories.

Use either a satin or semi-gloss sheen in bathrooms to give the walls and trim extra durability to hold up against moisture and frequent cleanings.

The bathroom is a great place to use more daring colors that you love but that you might hesitate to use in other rooms of your home. Since they’re often located behind closed doors, you can feel free to choose colors that reflect your personal style.
