Farmhouse-Inspired Kitchen

Floor-to-ceiling subway tile, dramatic black cabinets, and warm wood touches make the farmhouse-inspired kitchen in the 2015 HGTV Urban Oasis a stylish place to make meals. See the features in this HGTV video:

This kitchen can be seen the minute you open the front door, so it was important for it to be just as much a showstopper as it is a hardworking cooking space. The super-classic timeless farmhouse appeal carries from the kitchen to the entire great room, and the lack of upper cabinets makes the space feel a lot larger.

While location of the window next to the hood made installation of upper cabinetry difficult, this does not mean the cabinets are short of storage; on the contrary, there is storage almost everywhere you look in this kitchen. Hooks on the wall provide a creative storage solution for utensils used on a daily basis.

Overall, the style of the house is very relaxed and casual, so that particular look carries throughout the kitchen. To keep the black-and-white color scheme from coming off as too cold, warmth was added with wood textures. The perimeter countertops are made from engineered quartz, while the island is made from butcher block.

The island may be the most interesting feature in this kitchen as the sides are wrapped with the same reclaimed wood that was used originally for the wood floors in the house. Another great standout feature is the trio of industrial rustic pendants hung above the island, which offer plenty of task lighting.

Overall, this kitchen is an excellent example of how rustic and sophisticated styles can blend together.
