Six Tips for Home Weatherization

When in comes to keeping your home warm all winter, you want to be proactive and make sure you’re protecting your pipes and windows as well as keeping your heating costs under control. This video by The Home Depot presents six tips for home weatherization:

1. Caulk around the window trims and the door trim to prevent cold air from coming through those gaps.

2. Shrink wrap your windows. Attach double-sided tape to the windows, put the shrink wrap on and hit it with a hair dryer.

3. Put door draft guards on the bottom of your exterior doors. They can be cut to fit and are easy to install.

4. Check your pipes and make sure they’re wrapped. Putting insulation foam around your pipes will prevent them from freezing up.

5. Capping off your hose extension will keep water from freezing and prevent bursting pipes.

6. Remove all leaves from your gutters in the fall. If you don’t clean your gutters, the leaves will freeze and eventually get covered with snow, and the extra weight will rip the gutters away from your house.
