1. Change the ceiling lights and hard-to-reach lights , like in a stairwell or entry chandelier. You won’t have that on your to-do list again for decades.

2. When coach lights, security lamps or landscape lights burn out, they can be a hassle to change, especially in cold weather. Make the switch during warmer weather and you won’t have to do it again for about 20 years.

3. Energy savings really kick in where a bulb is used 3 hours or more per day. So switch to LEDs in rooms where the lights are on the longest.

4. In closets or utility areas, go with a non-dimmable or non-omnidirectional bulb. They cost a little less.

5. A traditional dimmer switch isn’t compatible with dimmable LEDs. Replace it with a universal dimmer switch, or your LED bulb may flicker. dim or burn out.

6. Instead of replacing bulbs in your can lights, get LED kits that combine the bulb and trim ring. They look great and install so easily, and it could be 20 years or more before you have to replace one.
