Light Control Options for Window Treatments

An important function of a window treatment is controlling the way light comes into your room. This video by The Home Depot presents several options for window treatments with enhanced light control:

Do you need to block the light completely for a media room, nursery or other bedroom? Honeycomb shades are available in room-darkening fabrics that will offer the best option for complete light blockage as well as in other materials that will filter light while maintaining privacy.

Are you trying to protect furniture from sunlight? Solar shades will maintain your view while blocking out most UV light and glare; however, these shades do not provide privacy at night.

Wood blinds, faux wood blinds and shutters have slats that can be rotated either horizontally or vertically as the light changes, allowing natural light in but blocking direct sunlight.

Most custom window treatments have a small light gap on the side. Consider adding a set of drapery panels to cover these gaps and add a dramatic touch to your windows.

Top-down/bottom-up is a customization option that allows light in above but provides shading and privacy below. It is a great light control option that gives you light and privacy at the same time.
