Small Eclectic Outdoor Space

The client’s eclectic design challenge: fit a pool, lounging area and dining area into a small 18′ x 50′ outdoor space. See how the transformation of this originally unfinished space more than met the challenge in this House & Home video:

This project is a good example of what can be done with a small space and still make it work and be well-designed.

There was virtually no space for a lawn, so it was omitted from this outdoor area. The design was partially simplified as the only place for the pool was in the back. A glass fence surrounds the pool, meeting code but maintaining the open feel of the space.

The lounge area is distinguished by its Dutch-modern horizontal lines and California-inspired furnishings.

Removing the plastic garage siding revealed beautiful old patina tin which serves as one wall of the dining space, while the opposing wall is made of corten steel, enhancing the eclectic look.
