Affordable DIY Entryway Coat Hanger

You can build your own affordable, stylish and functional entryway coat hanger using just a few pieces of wood, some paint and some easy-to-find hardware and accessories. Learn how in this Build.com video:

For the 51-inch long project featured in this video, leftover hardwood flooring was used for the frame of the hanger, but you can also use some 1 by 6 wood you have lying around.

The first step was to make the cuts. The flooring was put together and the excess wood trimmed off, and then the cross braces for the back were cut using some hardwood.

The next step was to paint. To achieve a rustic restored furniture look, the wood was first sanded and then covered with a layer of black spray paint. After letting the paint dry for one hour, a coat a flat white paint was applied over the top. After spray painting the handles black to match the hardware and painting the mounting boards that would hold the entire piece together, the project was moved inside to begin assembly.

A quick sanding of the wood exposes the black paint underneath, giving it a cool vintage look. The mounting boards were attached to the back, and then the handles were added to the back to allow hanging the piece on the wall.

The hangers were spaced out to make everything even and then fixed to the board. Address numbers were attached one by one, giving it a cool unique look.

For the last step, some coat hooks were attached to the wall, and the board was hung from the handles.

And that’s it – a unique, visually pleasing yet functional entryway hanger that you can make yourself.
