Unconventional Contemporary Kitchen Makeover

The upper cabinetry in this otherwise spacious kitchen acted as a divider – and barrier – to the rest of the light-filled home. A strategic re-location of storage elements opens up the space. See the details of this unconventional contemporary kitchen makeover in this House & Home video:

This renovated kitchen offers plentiful and appropriate storage, such as dishes near the dishwasher, barbecue utensils near the deck, and files near the work center. Wall-to-ceiling built-in storage with mahogany sliding doors replaces the upper cabinetry. The kitchen is divided into cooking, sitting and TV zones along with a combination breakfast area and work space.

Two tall steel frame glass doors open up the back wall and bring in light. Additional features such as a heated stone floor, wood counter, faux concrete wallpaper, bronze finishes, a cozy rug and linen curtains add warmth to the space.
