How to Care for Peace Lilies
Who doesn’t love an indestructible house plant? Learn more about peace lilies and how to care for them in this eHow Home video:
The peace lily or spathiphyllum gets its name from its shape – a spath or spade-shaped leaf – and they come in a variety of leaf sizes. Some species have variegated creamy white and green leaves, which work well in rooms with creamy or white furnishings.
Peace lilies are shade-loving plants, so you will want to keep them five to eight feet away from a window. If you choose a window with limited sun exposure, it should have sheers or other type of drapery to cut back on the light.
Peace lilies are great air purifiers that take chemicals out of the air, so they are ideal plants for bathrooms.
Renowned for its easy care, a peace lily will slightly droop if it needs water. Once you give it water, it only takes an hour for rehydration. Do not overwater them or you will end up “killing it with kindness”.
