Small Space Bedroom-Nursery Transformation

Small awkwardly-shaped spaces always present challenges, especially when they serve double-duty and are in a rental home. The young couple who lives in this home had a hard time outfitting a small room with sloped ceilings and odd nooks. See the transformation of this small space into a combined bedroom-nursery in this House & Home video:

The couple wanted this space to still serve as a guest bedroom until the baby arrived, so the makeover started with the basic nursery essentials:

The clean lines of the crib make it look both modern and traditional, and the whimsical awning tuns it into a little house. It easily transforms into a toddler’s bed for future use.

To save space, the dresser and changing table were combined into one. The changing pad was placed on top of an inherited vintage dresser.

A small nook was the perfect spot for a bright yellow dual-purpose sleeper sofa which can be used for relaxation and for overnight guests. Open shelving provides storage for toys and books. The sleek rocker, another nursery essential, can easily transition into the living room. Since painting was not an option as the home was a rental, color was introduced by layered rugs and soft furnishings. All of these pieces are stylish enough that they can be moved into other rooms in the house when the time comes.
