Floating Garden Baskets for Ponds

You probably have hanging plants, but have you thought about a floating garden? Learn how to create floating garden baskets that add beauty to your pond in this eHow Home video:

The floating garden basket featured in this video is made from a landscape-type fabric that allows water to come through, providing nutrients to the plants and roots, and it is easy to put together. Put plants such as papyrus, grasses, potato vines and impatiens in the basket. You can experiment with different types of plants, but the best plants to use are those that don’t mind “getting their feet wet”.

Once you’ve added your plants, add pea gravel to provide weight and stabilization and prevent the dirt from getting into the pond. Insert several fertilizer spikes with a slow-release fertilizer on either side of the container; this will be sufficient for the entire season. Use an anchor string to tie in to the bottom of the pond or to perimeter rocks for mooring.
