Bright Comfortable Great Room

Bright white walls and sky-high ceilings set the stage to make for a truly spectacular and comfortable great room in the HGTV 2015 Dream Home. See the details in this HGTV video:

It all starts with the architecture. Soaring vaulted ceilings featuring intricate trim work and symmetrical dormer windows lets in loots of natural light and make this large space feel cozier. The walls and ceiling are cladded beadboard, a nod to this New England home’s architectural history, which is painted in a soft satin white which helps reflect light and sets off the beautiful reclaimed wood beams. Floor-to-ceiling white linen drapes soften the space and help absorb the sound in this massive room. The blue accent color is a subtle reminder that this is a coastal home that’s all about relaxing and entertaining.

This great room is the first space you walk into. In its entry, the pair of matching console tables visually balances the front door and provide storage for seasonal items. Since this space is definitely the heart of the home, it was important to have plenty of seating. An oversized wool Dhurrie rug anchors a three-seater sofa, a pair of armless slipper chairs covered in durable indoor-outdoor fabric, and a bamboo side chair, providing plenty of room for family and friends.

The floor-to-ceiling entertainment center is anchored by a cozy stone fireplace and features plenty of storage and display space. The dark blue beadboard against the back wall lets the sculptural objects on display pop.
