Tips for Lighting Your Home
Learn about ambient, task and accent lighting and get tips for lighting your home in this Lowe’s video:
There are three types of lighting called layers of light: ambient, task and accent.
Ambient or general lighting is the overall lighting every room needs. Pendants, chandeliers and floor lamps fill the room with enough overall light to read, work and play.
Add task lighting in pinpointed areas where you need intense direct light. Use under cabinet lights or mini pendants over food preparation areas and desk lamps in reading areas.
Accent lighting spotlights things and helps to balance your lighting. Install track lighting to illuminate art and other collectibles and wall sconces to highlight your mantel or fireplace.
Have some fixtures on dimmer switches so you can lower the light and fine tune the atmosphere. Just be sure the light is dimmable first.
If you find a fixture you like, check to see if it’s part of a collection.
Don’t forget light bulbs. Be sure they are compatible with your light fixture.
With the right blend of ambient, task and accent lighting, your home’s lighting is complete.
