Nautical-Themed Guest Bathroom

If you’ve ever wanted to create a themed room but decided against it for fear it would look too cheesy or dated, the guest bathroom in the HGTV 2015 Dream Home is a perfect example of a theme-based room done right. See the features in this HGTV video:

This room is all about nautical style, but instead of iconic navy blue, the beadboard was painted blue-gray. Nods to textures found in the ocean are included in the design and decor, such as maritime lights and a mirror with a frame that resembles driftwood. More subtle is the not-so-obvious clam-shaped vessel sink, while the nautical-striped towels and the oar used as sculpture are more literal.

To do a themed room, the best way is to go with nods to the overall theme and just a few touches that are more literal. This will give you a room that will withstand the test of time.
