Tips for Christmas Decorating with Greenery

Outdoors or indoors, greenery is a wonderful way to bring the holiday spirit home. Get tips for Christmas decorating with greenery in this Lowe’s video:

The key to decorating with greenery is to keep it fresh, which means keeping it moist. A single spray each day with a mister will help them last, but don’t mist anything exposed to direct sunlight. The sun through the water droplets can create burn spots on the greenery.

If you want to go through a little extra effort, soak garlands or greens overnight in a galvanized tub so they’ll really drink up the moisture. If you’re soaking branches, give the ends a fresh cut like you would with a live tree. Dry off your greens before starting your decorating.

When choosing greenery, think about where you’ll be using it. Almost anything can work outdoors in cold conditions. If you’re decorating indoors, lean towards pines, cedars or firs as they tend to dry out more slowly than other varieties. Always look for vibrant color and flexible stems as both are signs of freshness.

Greens look great just about anywhere. Use them on railings or mantels. Create centerpieces. Put them on tabletops. Freeze them into luminaries or tuck them into unexpected spots. You can’t go wrong when going green.
