There is a really fine line between having a beautiful vignette and having a lot of junk on a shelf. Learn how to use a bookcase to create attractive displays in this HGTV video:

Do you have a bookcase that’s an eyesore? It’s easy to transform it into the focal point of your space.

Think of a bookcase as an enormous display case of your life:

1. Think of books as mini-surfaces to play with. Stack them vertically and horizontally to create tiers or small tables within the shelves. Small decor items can be placed on top of vertical stacks.

2. Bring in ornaments and accessories such as photographs, statues, collectibles or even rocks that are remotely sentimental and tell the story of your life. Display them in a thoughtful way on the upper shelves.

3. Place more functional accessories such as tableware and glassware on the lower shelves.

4. Lighting is key to a display case. Whether it’s coming from above or within, make sure it’s highlighting the very thoughtful vignettes you’re setting up in your bookcase.
