Cramped Galley Kitchen Renovation

This dingy 8′ x 23′ cramped galley kitchen was in desperate need of a makeover. The overall design goal was to create a feeling of authenticity by incorporating elements that would blend in with the rest of this older home. See the final results of this renovation in this House & Home video:

The white faux brick veneer lends a European feel to the kitchen. A wooden table with a wrought iron base can serve as a buffet, dining table, workstation or island. Faux front cabinetry hides the ductwork.

Full sized appliances make the room feel bigger. Raising the archway and doors to the roof also increases the feeling of space without increasing the footprint.

Other features include:

  • Shaker front white cabinetry with black hardware
  • White subway tile with black grouting
  • Large custom window
  • Slate tile flooring in a herringbone pattern
  • Glass doors opening to the outdoors
  • Built-in shelving and microwave
