Transformation of Antique Sicilian Furniture Into Unique Kitchen Cabinetry

Incorporating antique 19th century Sicilian bedroom furniture into the cabinetry is a most unusual request for a kitchen remodel. Designer Cheryl Hamilton-Gray discusses the challenge of creating these unique kitchen cabinets in this Trends video:

The homeowners had already purchased the suite of furniture from an antique warehouse and felt it would be ideal for their kitchen renovation as it was detailed and carved and would fit with the rest of their decor.

The furniture was inventoried and measured to determine where the panels could be used most effectively in the new kitchen layout. As the furniture was also used for the bar and family room, a Mexican carver was hired to duplicate the carvings. The newer cabinetry accounts for about 40% of the total but the artistry is such that it completely blends in with the original.
