Ideas for Redesigning a Basement Into a Multipurpose Room

Basements have a tendency to turn into gigantic “junk drawers” and as such are commonly underutilized. Responding to a call for help to rescue a “dungeon”, designer Genevieve Gorder shares ideas for redesigning a basement into a multipurpose room in this HGTV video:

Here are some ideas for creating a shared kids’ play space and guest room:

  • Keep toys out of sight with hidden wall storage.
  • Use multipurpose furnishings. An oversized daybed with full-sized mattress, bolsters, accent pillows and throws allows the space to operate as a guest room.
  • Adding a stage with curtains creates a performance space that is great for entertaining lots of kids.
