The color wash technique is all about glazes, and the technique is the same regardless of your palette.
1. The basic formula is to mix four parts glaze to one part paint. Mix one batch using your base wall color and the second batch using your contract or highlight color.
2. Using the darker color first, roll some random patches of color on the wall. Roll the lighter color in between those random patches.
3. Begin blending the glazes together using a chip brush, working in a random pattern and working the wet edges. As glazes have a long open time, you don’t have to work in haste, but you will want to ensure you are working with wet edges. You may want to have one person do the rolling and the other the blending if you are painting a large space.
4. Continue the technique until you fill your working space. The final result is like a watercolor for your walls.
