Tips For Maximizing Kitchen Storage

A well-planned kitchen saves time and money. Organization is a key component, but certain types of kitchen cabinets pose real challenges. Professional organizer Liz Witts shares tips for maximizing kitchen storage in this HGTV video:

Corner kitchen cabinets are very hard to reach and tend to become a dumping ground for all kind of items. Installling a two-tier lazy susan doubles the storage space, and the swing-out shelves make it easy to access items located in the back of the cabinet. If you store pots and pans, you can add a small rack to keep the lids organized.

Under-the-sink cabinets have a lot of available storage space, but they also have obstacles such as pipes and garbage disposals which make it difficult to utilize. A good storage system is needed to help you see what you have and prevent buying duplicate items when you go to the store.

Expand your under-the-sink storage by adding extra cabinet shelving that goes around the garbage disposal as well as a storage rack inside the door for towels and small cleaning supplies. You can also take items out of large containers and put them into smaller bins that fit on the cabinet shelves. If you buy in bulk, anything left over can be moved into long-term storage.
