Blueberries – How to Plant and Adjust Soil pH

Blueberries are a tasty and nutritious summer treat. These videos by The Home Depot show you how to plant this delicious fruit in your yard and adjust the soil pH for optimal growth:

When planting blueberries, select two different varieties for cross-pollination in order to optimize your yield. Take the blueberry plants out of the pots and loosen up the roots. Plant them in containers that already have holes punched in the bottom for drainage and add more soil around the top. You can add an underplanting such as lemon thyme. A tomato cage will help the blueberry plants stand up and support the berries.

Blueberries are shrubby plants that prefer a more acid soil. Add a soil acidifier such as an organic sulfur mixture or aluminum sulfate. Loosen up the soil, sprinkle the acidifier around the drip line of the plant, mix it in, cover with mulch, and water. You can monitor the soil acidity by using a digital soil tester to get the soil pH reading.
