Core Aerating and Overseeding for Expert Lawn Care

Learn about the benefits of core aeration and overseeding for your lawn in this Spring-Green video:

In the core aeration process, a machine called a core aerator goes across the lawn and takes out plugs of soil and thatch (called cores) and deposits them on top of the ground. Leaving cores on the lawn has two advantages: 1. It allows seed to germinate in the holes or on the cores themselves, and 2. It allows the microorganisms in the soil to break down thatch naturally.

In summary, core aeration allows the seed to germinate and permits air, water and nutrients to penetrate into the root zone and promote better root growth.

After aeration and overseeding, you should keep your lawn watered for 2-3 weeks to ensure seed germination. Water at least every other day. Seed failure is primarily due to lack of water.
