Arch Shutters Provide a Stylish Accent to Arch Windows

There is no doubt that arch windows add a special look to any home; however, this type of window can be the most difficult to cover with window treatments. If it is a perfect arch ( a half circle with a width that is double the height), you can use pre-made window coverings; if not, you will need a custom window covering. While cellular shades or window tinting are viable options, many people select interior or plantation arch shutters. A plantation shutter compliments the arch shape of window and provides light control through adjustable louvers. A beautiful window solution is featured in this Kempler Design video:

A quality arch shutter will have louvers that should be moveable into the arch and a rail (top part of the shutter) that stays the same width as it follows the window’s arch top. Properly made shutters are the result of skill and time. Handcrafted louvers close tightly into the arch of the shutter. To enable full operation of all of the shuttle panel louvers, for louvers not reached by the tilt rod, a tilt mechanism is applied on the back of the shutter from the top louver down to those controlled by the tilt rod. It is these details that make the finished product look and operate the very best.

If you’ve decided to install plantation shutters on the lower portion of the window but are uncertain about what to do for the arch portion, ask the vendor if shutters for the arch section can be ordered at a later date. Alternatively, you may just want to leave the arch section open and cover the lower part of the window with a cafe shutter.

To further accent your windows and improve your home’s curb appeal, you can install exterior arch top shutters. Options include louvered arch shutters and combo arch shutters that combine louvers with shakers or a raised panel.
