1920s-Inspired Living-Dining Room Makeover
This 1920’s farmhouse has a living-dining room with a beautiful fireplace, but it needed a seating area, and the homeowners wanted to modernize the space while keeping the old look and feel of their vintage home. See the details of this 1920s-inspired living-dining room makeover in this Lowe’s video:
Molding and Trim: The original chunky trim was the inspiration for the woodwork, and the look was replicated around the mudroom doors. New baseboards give the space a more classic and refined finish. The walls were painted a light green and the trim a rich darker green.
Fireplace Facelift: The red brick was toned down using a German smear technique. Stacked faux firewood adds a decorative look.
Wood Plank Ceilings: Tongue and groove unfinished wall planks were added to the entire ceiling to give the space a warmer cozier feel. Exposed wood beams were created by using 2×8 wood boards on top of the plain ceiling and running them in line towards the focal point – the fireplace. A medium brown stain ties the look into the existing flooring.
Beautiful furniture and accessories that are both modern and classic provide the finishing touches.
