Family-Friendly Great Room Transformation
This great room was small and consisted of a kitchen on one side and a large boxy fireplace on the other side, which left little room for a dining set, chairs or sofa. The design solution was to create multifunctional spaces. See the features of this family-friendly great room transformation in this House & Home video:
The fireplace was removed and a banquette with comfortable seating was installed. On the side opposite the banquette is the living area which has a TV, a desk that serves as an office area, a sofa and chairs that do double-duty as banquette and living area seating. New millwork and vinyl grasscloth wallpaper define the wall.
In the kitchen, the cabinetry was painted a light neutral color, and a matching stone backsplash and large pendant lights with black detailing were installed. A new tall pantry has a built-in microwave and a broom closet that provides extra storage.
